The
Centre for Inclusive Education team of Looking Forward My Future – School Makes Sense Project organized a meeting with entrepreneurs and professionals from Teteven on March 17, 2016. With enthusiasm and desire, seven representatives of local community decided to support children from “Georgi Benkovski” Primary School in Teteven to gain experience and broaden their horizon. Fireman, veterinary surgeon, pastry and hotel owner, landscaper, tourist guide, kindergarten teacher and adventure tourism specialist shared their experience, how they realized what they want to do and how they made their dream came through. Each of them has its own story for the person who helped him and on their turn now, they are doing the same.
The professionals will participate in a cycle of activities from the beginning of next school year to show sixth grade pupils that school and education make sense. Why six grade? According to experts this is an age with key importance to pupils’ perception of school. Often children lose their motivation to continue perceiving education seriously during this period of time. That is why twelve years children need to look beyond the textbooks and to recognize someone or something as an example and objective. During the whole school year, children together with teachers and professionals will work to elaborate, develop and rationalize life plans for every child.
Children will become acquainted with the activities of all seven professionals in real environment during the first semester and will think over their desires and perspectives to realization. Pupils in groups will in more depth immerse themselves in reality and the work of their chosen professional fields during the second semester. Following the method “learning through experience” children will gain real experience and new knowledge, which will help them to understand that the education is the first step in whatever they decide to do in the future.
