The year 2024 was filled with challenges, efforts, and significant achievements for the Green Educational Center Sturgel. Despite the limited resources at our disposal, we made great strides towards creating a space for learning, work, and collaboration.
What Have We Achieved?
- Roof Renovation: We successfully replaced two-thirds of the old roof. This was a crucial and long-awaited step that exhausted our financial resources for the year but ensured the building's stability and paved the way for further improvements.
- Part of the Educational Eco-Community of Gorna Malina: Joining this network expanded opportunities for synergy and the sharing of best practices. Together with partner organizations and the municipality, we are creating a sustainable model for developing educational and cultural initiatives in the region.
- International Volunteers: For the first time, we welcomed international volunteers who spent two months in Sturgel, living and actively working on improving the school. This was not only an opportunity to advance renovation efforts but also a chance for cultural exchange and new friendships.
- Teambuilding for Students: Throughout the year, we conducted teambuilding activities for classes from across the country, aimed at helping students build stronger relationships and discover new approaches to collaboration and learning.
- Problem-Solving Meetings for Schools: We participated in a series of meetings with colleagues from the local community and Sofia to discuss and find solutions to various challenges in the educational environment. We believe these dialogues will lead to sustainable solutions and a better learning environment for all.
- Christmas Party for the Community: For the first time, we organized a large Christmas celebration that brought together friends, partners, and residents from the local community and Sofia. The event was full of joy, music, and shared moments that strengthened the sense of community and support.
What’s Next?
Looking ahead, 2025 will bring many more opportunities and challenges:
- Creating a Permaculture Garden: This project will be carried out with the help of volunteers who will establish a sustainable ecosystem in the center’s yard.
- New International Volunteers: We expect a new group of volunteers in the summer who will continue the development of the center and contribute with their work and energy.
- Continuation of Student Teambuilding Activities: The teambuilding format will remain, expanding the number of participating schools and offering even more diverse activities.
- Events in the Yard and Hall: We plan numerous events—workshops, meetings, concerts—that will make the center an attractive place for learning and sharing.
- Finalizing the Campaign on Podkrepi.bg: Completing this initiative will allow us to carry out further renovations and improvements.
- External Insulation for the Workshop: This is the next big step in upgrading the center, improving conditions for work and education.
